Appropriation Art und skulpturale Inszenierung

Raynaud thematisierte als erster Künstler die Arbeit des Verpackers und Transporteurs, das Nomadentum von Kunstwerken rund um die Welt, von Ausstellung zu Ausstellung, sowie die Präsenz zeitgenössischer Kunst in den Medien in Form von Ektachromen, die als hinterleuchtete Filme, als Bilder auf der glänzenden Oberfläche der TV-Monitore, als Diasec-Formate klassische Arbeiten der Kunstgeschichte aufscheinen.
Arbeiten, die er im Originalformat in Transportkisten zeigte, (siehe auch die Arbeit der Staatsgalerie "Der Perseus Zyklus" erworben im Jahr 1989 waren in den 80er Jahren Inszenierungen, die in dieser Form zum ersten mal zu sehen waren). Szenerien in situ, sowie grosse Installationen begründeten weltweit seinen Ruf als erfindungsreicher Medien-und Environment-Künstler. Seine Inszenierungen des menschlichen Körpers in Arbeiten wie "Blinde Passagiere", 1991 (ZKM), "Le Festin Cannibale", 1993 (ZKM), "Waschungen/Ablutions", 1992 (Kunsthalle Mannheim) zeigen die Fragilität, die Verletzlichkeit auf eine Art und Weise, die das Sein unserer Leiblichkeit mit großer Behutsamkeit, Sensibilität und Achtung thematisiert.Vor allem erwähnt werden soll hier das großartige Environment "V.O.", 1995, das den toten Christus (Basel) als Hintergrundfolie auf einer Filmleinwand für amerikanische Werbeslogans dient und durch Musikbegleitung sozusagen die die profane Schamlosigkeit der heutigen Werbeindustrie offenlegt. Die Wehrlosigkeit des toten Körpers jedoch legt sowohl Slogans als auch Musikbegleitung bloß. Es bleiben Trauer und Nachdenklichkeit (Sammlung Museum Ludwig).

Appropriation art and sculptural staging 

Patrick Raynaud was the first artist to focus on the work of the packer and transporter, the nomadism of works of art around the world, from exhibition to exhibition, as well as the  presence of contemporary art in the media in the form of ectachromes, as backlit films, as images in the shiny surface of the TV monitors, classic works of art history appear as diasec formats. Works that he showed in the original format in transport boxes (see also the work "The Perseus Cycle" acquired by Staatsgalerie Stuttgart in 1989) were productions in the 80s that were shown for the first time in this form. Scenes in-situ as well as large installations established his reputation worldwide as an inventive media and environment artist. His staging of the human body in works such as "Blinde Passagiere", 1991 (collection ZKM, Karlsruhe), "Le Festin Cannibale, La Table du Savoir et du Désir", 1993 (coll. ZKM, Karlsruhe), "Ablutions/Washings", 1992 (Kunsthalle Mannheim) show the fragility, the vulnerability in a way that our being corporeality is addressed with great care, sensitivity and respect. Above all, the great environment "V.O.", 1995, should be mentioned here, which serves the dead Christ (Basel) as a background film on a film screen for American advertising slogans and, though musical accompaniment, so to speak, the profane shamelessness of today's advertising industry. The defenselessness of the dead body, however, exposes both slogans and musical accompaniment. There remains sadness and thoughtfulness (collection Museum Ludwig).
